Considered by many to be one of life’s great adventures, an African safari through the world famous national parks of Tanzania is a trip that simply can’t be missed. In a shortened version of our famous adventure: “The Ultimate African Safari: Serengeti and Ngorongoro National Parks - 10 days”, this trip gives you plenty of opportunities for big game viewing and to take in the vast and incredible natural attractions of Tanzania, but does it all within one week.
Hunt down Africa’s big five with a loaded camera and come home with memories that will last a lifetime. Here you will find the highest concentration of big game animals in the world, including elephants, rhinos, lions, leopards, and water buffalos (the big five), as well as countless giraffe, cheetahs, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, jackals, antelope, ostriches, warthogs, and so many more. Whether it’s the beauty of nature that you seek, the amazing culture that lives in harmony with this great land, or simply the vast variety of animals that roam the plains, this is the Africa that many imagine in their dreams. This is Africa at its truest and most magnificent.
Places Visited:
Safari to Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara National Park, Olduvai Gorge, Moshi, Arusha
Trip Itinerary:
Day 1:
ARRIVE IN MOSHI
Arrive in Tanzania and meet at the designated hotel in Moshi. After you settle in you will get together with our local guide to discuss the itinerary and to answer any last minute questions. The remainder of the day is yours to relax and enjoy the beautiful gardens and outdoor pool of the hotel or take a walk through the vibrant streets of Moshi.
NOTE: If you are arriving at Kilimanjaro International airport in Tanzania, you can choose, for a small charge, to be met by one of our representatives and transferred to the hotel. This can be indicated during the check out process. If you are arriving at any other airport, please contact us for transfer options.
Day 2:
LAKE MANYARA
After a hearty breakfast you will meet up with your guide and drive 3-4 hours from Moshi to Lake Manyara, stopping for lunch enroute. In the afternoon you will experience your first game drive at Lake Manyara National Park. The park is famous for its huge variety of birdlife (almost 400 different species) and for its elephant population and tree-climbing lions. Overnight is an excellent safari lodge. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included)
Day 3:
SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
Getting another early start, you will drive 3-4 hours to the gates of the world famous Serengeti National Park. After lunch you will be taken on a spectacular afternoon game drive through the Serengeti Plains tracking the great animals of Africa. Tonight you will spend an exciting night in a comfortable and luxurious tent camp out in the middle of the Serengeti Plains. This fantastic luxury tent camp is equipped with a private shower and toilets, two king-sized beds, a verandah, table and chairs, giving you the excitement of camping, but with all the comforts of a deluxe hotel. Should you wish to forgo the luxury camping (which we wouldn’t suggest), lodges are certainly available. Contact us for details. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included)
Day 4:
SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
Following a delicious breakfast you will head out and spend a full day continuing to explore the vast and spectacular Serengeti. Your guide will know the best places to find the constantly moving and sometimes elusive animals of these great plains. Weather permitting, this is the day to take the optional, not-to-be-missed breakfast hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti Plains. Again you will spend an amazing night in the Serengeti at a luxury tent camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included)
Optional: 1-hour balloon ride with champagne breakfast: $550 per person.
Day 5:
NGORONGORO CRATER
Leaving the amazing Serengeti Plains after a morning game drive, you will make your way to the Ngorongoro Crater National Park. Perhaps more awe-inspiring than the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater is not only one of nature’s true wonders, it is also a photographer’s dream. Being the largest intact crater in the world, Ngorongoro is the massive remnants of a once mighty volcano that collapsed upon itself 2 million years ago. The result is an unbroken circular wall that measures 2,000 feet high, 10 miles across and features a flat, fertile floor. Due to its height, passing clouds get caught up on the crater, providing precious rainwater all year. Today the crater is a self-contained, year-round Garden of Eden for 30,000 plus animals of all kinds and the perfect spot for safaris any day of the year. Ngorongoro is, beyond question, a sight that you will never forget. Overnight is an excellent safari lodge. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included)
Optional: Masai Mara Village visit (decided enroute)
Day 6:
NGORONGORO CRATER
Saying a fond farewell to the amazing Ngorongoro Crater after a morning game drive, you will travel back to Moshi via Mto Wa Mbu and Arusha. (Breakfast and lunch are included)
Day 7:
TRIP ENDS
Your adventure ends after breakfast. Fly home or, even better, continue with another one of our great adventures such as a Mt. Kilimanjaro trek or a Gorilla trek. (Breakfast is included)
