|DISABLED TRAVELER: Explore Ecuador and Peru - 10 Days

This specially designed trip caters specifically for the disabled traveler.

The UNESCO World Heritage City Quito, Lima the city of kings and the ancient wonder of Machu Picchu await the adventurous traveler with this 10 day Ecuador and Peru combination trip.

Take a fantastic tour of the wonderful city of Quito and the surrounding countryside, all located high in the snow-capped mountains and experience the thrill of being at the equator line on both the north and south hemispheres simultaneously.

Situated in a valley at the foot of the active volcano Pichincha, Quito exudes the charm of an old colonial town rich in culture, art and vibrant architecture. A prosperous Indian town of the ancient Kingdom of Quitus, subsequently becoming the northern capital of the Inca Empire.

Next you will venture into Peru. Hidden high in the Peruvian Andes, the ancient city of Machu Picchu reigns supreme as one of the world's coveted adventure travel destinations. Unknown to the outside world until 1911, Machu Picchu is an archeological and cultural gem and a premier World Heritage Site recently recognized as one of the new ‘Seven Wonders of the World’. Believed to have been built around 1440 as a summer retreat for the Incan royalty, the ruins are a spectacular testament to the amazing skills of a long lost Inca civilization.

On this Peruvian adventure you will travel from Lima to Machu Picchu via Cusco, the Sacred Valley of the Incas and a beautiful train ride up the Sacred Valley of Urubamba. After an amazing and awe-inspiring experience up in the mountains at Machu Picchu, your trip will finish with a return visit to Lima.

Day 1
Ecuador, Quito

Arrival in Quito, assistance and transfer from airport Mariscal Sucre to the hotel. Time to relax and adapt to the altitude.

QUITO, the capital of Ecuador, named by UNESCO a World Heritage Site, lies in a spectacular mountain setting at 2,850 meters above the sea level and just 16 miles south of the equator. With a magnificent blend of colonial and modern architecture, Quito was a prosperous Indian town of the ancient Kingdom of Quitus, and later became the northern capital of the Inca Empire. Colonial Quito was founded in 1534 starting immediately to build golden cathedrals, monasteries and mansions that made Quito a center of the artistic achievement.
Visitors are warmly welcomed at the capital’s fine hotels and cozy restaurants with both Ecuadorian and international delicate cuisine.

Day 2
Quito (B)

AM: Quito Colonial and Modern
This three hour sightseeing excursion offers the best of Quito with its rich cultural legacy, ornate facades, and dazzling gilt altars. Visit the Independence Square, The Archbishop’s Palace, The Metropolitan Cathedral as well as other very representative samples of colonial art and architecture. At the end, time permitting, drive to the hill of Panecillo for a panoramic view of the city.

PM: Equator Complex
Just 25 minutes outside of Quito, visit “La Mitad del Mundo” (Middle of the World), which marks zero degrees latitude and take advantage of the opportunity to stand on both hemispheres at the same time. Visit the Equatorial Museum featuring a diverse sample of Ecuador’s different ethnic groups.

Day 3
Quito (B, L)

The Northern Highlands & Otavalo Market – One day tour
An early start, to travel north of Quito to the province of Imbabura, a magical land of lakes. The Otavalo Indian market dates back to the pre-Inca times and is famous for its textiles woven on back-straps and shuttle looms.

The market is piled high with ponchos, hand made textiles, hats, Indian jewellery, and various handicrafts. You will have time to explore the market. Lunch will be served at one of the hosterias of the area.

Afternoon, if time permits, you will visit Cotacachi, an artisans centre known for its leather goods or San Antonio de Ibarra where the highlights are the wood-carvings.

Mindo - A natural paradise
Discover one of the world’s top-five biodiversity hotspots, according to Conservation International; understand your relationship and listen to the concert of life around you. At 80kms northwest of Quito we find a Reserve of 15,000 acres of rainforest of incredible beauty and tranquillity; this amazingly bio diverse region is home of: 2000 species of plants, including at least 90 species of ferns and vivid flowering varieties such as bromeliads and orchids. Constant moisture with this environment provides perfect conditions for epiphytes and allows great variety of vegetation with more than 325 species of birds including the Golden Headed Quetzal, Crimson-Rumped Toucanets, Violet-Tailed Sylph, Broad-Billed Motmot, an active “Andean Cock-of the Rock” leek and at least 250 species of butterflies and moths, such as the Electric Blue Morpho. Lunch included in one of the hosterias of the area.

Day 4
Quito, Lima (B)

Assistance and transfer from your hotel in Quito to the airport in order to take your flight to Peru.

Upon arrival, you will be met at the airport and transfered to your hotel in Lima.

Our representative will give you a documentation kit with a detailed explanation of the program. Luggage and hotel registration assistance is offered.

Day 5
Lima (B, L)

Morning visit to the Larco Museum, which features the finest gold and silver collection from ancient Peru and the famous erotic archaeological collection. For an unforgettable experience, Larco is one of the few museums in the world where visitors can also choose to enter the storage area with its 45.000 classified archaeological objects.

Lunch will be enjoyed at a local restaurant. In the afternoon you will visit the famous Indian market, a great opportunity to appreciate and buy excellent pieces of Peruvian art.

Day 6
Lima, Cusco (B, D)

At the scheduled time, transfer to the airport to take your flight to Cusco.

Upon arrival our representative will meet and transfer you to the hotel in Cusco. Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 7
Cusco (B)

We will visit the Imperial City, a living example of the mixture of the Andean and Spanish cultures. We start our trip visiting the Santo Domingo Convent, built over the Koricancha, an ancient Inca palace and main worship center of the Sun God. Later, we will stop at the Main Square, where you can explore the Cathedral and the beautiful Church of La Compania. We will visit the Sacsayhuaman Fortress, an imposing sample of Inca military architecture which dominates the city. Finally, we will explore the archaeological sites of Qenko, Puca-Pucara and Tambomachay, located north east of the city.

Day 8
Machu Picchu (B, L)

You will visit one of the most amazing and breathtaking attractions in the world: Machu Picchu - The Lost City of the Incas.

The panoramic excursion will be by train and during the trip we will have a magnificent view of the landscapes of the Sacred Valley of Urubamba. Upon arrival to Aguas Calientes, our representatives will assist you in boarding the bus which will take you to the citadel. It will be an unforgettable experience, a professional tour guide will narrate the history around this mysterious and charming place. After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore the zone on your own, relax and meditate. A buffet lunch will be served at the Sanctuary Lodge. At the fixed time, descend into the town.

Day 9
Machu Picchu, Cusco (B)

The morning will be spent at your leisure, enjoy the extra time to explore Machu Picchu's mesmerizing charm and history. The little village offers hot springs and a handicraft market just 10 minutes away.

In the afternoon, you will board the train that will take you back to Cusco. On arrival, our representatives will be waiting at the station, from where we will transfer you to the hotel.

Day 10
Cusco, Lima (B)

At the scheduled time, transfer to the airport to take your flight to Lima. Upon arrival, reception by our representatives and assistance to connect with your International flight back home.

Important Information

This specially designed trip caters specifically with the disabled in mind. It is mandatory that every disabled individual be accompanied by either a caregiver or partner and cannot travel alone.

While the trip has been built to cater for wheelbound customers, the pushing of the wheelchair will be the responsibility of the caregiver/partner but staff are available to assist with the transfering of the disabled traveler with accomodation, sightseeing and transport embarkation.

Hotels are either fully equipped with handicapped amenities or have at least been chosen for their capacity to handle wheelchair bound travelers with the aid of their traveling caregiver/partner.

Level of disability will be required at time of booking

This tour would also be suitable for travelers with crutches, the elderly or anyone else that may find it difficult or tiring to follow the rhythm of a group on a conventional tour.

It is recommended that disabled travelers use wheelchairs that can be folded
