Peru: Nazca Lines & Ballestas Islands Extension - 2 Days

Experience the mysteries and wonders of the world famous Nazca Lines from high above on our 2 day/1 night small group extension tour.

From Lima, travel down to Ica and explore the Nazca Lines during a captivating 1.5 hour aerial tour. These carefully drawn lines and meticulously detailed geoglyphs of an immense and an unknown origin were placed in one of the most arid regions of the world nearly 2,000 years ago. Who created them? And why? Not many mysteries have captivated us like the Nazca Lines. Are they a celestial calendar? An offering to appease the gods? These questions remain as some of the great mysteries of the ancient world.

A two-hour boat excursion to the wildlife rich Ballestas Islands in Paracas Bay on our return to Lima tops this trip off. Paracas, land of sun and peaceful beaches, is the largest natural reserve along the Peruvian coast. It is a territory bathed by some of the richest ocean waters on the planet and home to thousands of migratory birds, sea lions and the ever playful fur seals.

The Nazca Lines Extension is a great way to cap off an already exciting trip to the beautiful country of Peru.

Places Visited:

Lima, Nazca Lines, Ica, Ballestas Islands, Paracas

Trip Itinerary:
Day 1:
ICA & NAZCA LINES OVERFLIGHT

Bright and early we depart Lima and drive about 4 hours south along the Pan-American Highway from Lima to Ica, through the arid desert and along the lush coast. Once we settle into our hotels, we will go to the local airport and take an awe inspiring light aircraft flight over the mysterious and ancient Nazca Lines. Known for the various large figures that were drawn on the sandy soil nearly 2,000 years ago, Nazca will impress you with fascinating images representing animals, plants and images of all kinds. The rest of the day is free to rest and enjoy the hotel facilities or take an optional city tour, dune buggy ride or go sandboarding. Overnight in Ica.

Day 2:
ICA - PARACAS - LIMA

Making our way back to Lima, we drive 60 km. (37 miles) north to Paracas for an excursion by boat to the Ballestas Islands to view thousands of birds, sea lions and fur seals in their natural surroundings. The famous candlestick design, a Nazca civilization figure etched on the desert face, can also be seen from the boat.

In the late afternoon we return to Lima where the trip ends. (Includes breakfast).
